What is MDF?
MDF (Medium-Density Fibreboard) is made from wood fibres combined with resin and pressed at medium density. It has a smooth, uniform surface that takes paint and laminate finishes very well, and it's a popular, cost-effective choice for cabinet doors and panelling.
What is HDF?
HDF (High-Density Fibreboard) uses the same basic wood-fibre and resin composition as MDF but is pressed at a much higher density and pressure. This makes it noticeably stronger, more impact-resistant and more moisture-tolerant than standard MDF, at a moderately higher cost.

Which Should You Choose?
For most cabinet doors, wall panelling and decorative mouldings where cost efficiency matters more than heavy daily impact, MDF does the job well. For high-traffic areas, door skins, or anywhere the board needs extra strength and moisture tolerance, HDF is worth the small cost premium. Neither should be used in areas with constant water exposure - stick to BWP plywood there.
